Report on Inter-House Folk Dance Competition

An Inter-House Folk Dance Competition was organised at St. George’s School, Alaknanda on 28 April 2026 with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy. The event aimed to showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India through traditional folk dances from different states.

All eight houses participated wholeheartedly, presenting a spectacular array of folk dances. Shastri House performed Kalbeliya of Rajasthan, Gandhi House presented Bihu of Assam, Tilak House showcased Mayilattam of Tamil Nadu, Bose House performed Dogri of the Jammu and Kashmir region, Nehru House presented Dal Khai of Odisha, Tagore House performed the lively Dandiya of Gujarat, Patel House showcased Rai of Madhya Pradesh and Azad House presented Khamba Thoibi of Manipur. Each performance beautifully reflected regional traditions through vibrant costumes, energetic music and well-coordinated choreography. The participants displayed great enthusiasm, teamwork and dedication, making the event truly mesmerizing.

After a keenly contested competition, Tagore House secured the first position, while Gandhi House bagged the second position.

The event concluded with an inspiring address by the respected Principal Ma’am. She applauded all the participants and emphasized that India is a country rich in cultural heritage. She encouraged students to actively participate in such activities, as these experiences become cherished memories throughout life. She also advised students to focus on proper body movement, maintain a pleasant smile, include singing or appropriate lip movement, ensure proper choreography with teamwork and maintain good synchronization during performances.

The programme ended on a patriotic note with the singing of the National Anthem. Overall, the competition was a grand success, celebrating unity in diversity and leaving everyone inspired.
