FLORAL DECORATION

St. George’s School celebrated Onam, the festival of happiness, peace, prosperity and flowers, with great enthusiasm on 25th August 2026.

Onam commemorates the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, who is believed to return to Kerala each year to enquire about the well-being of his people. The much-awaited celebration was graced by the Honourable Director, Dr. Sara George and respected Principal Ms. Anjali Massey. The ceremony was inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

As part of the Inter-House Activity, students from all eight houses enthusiastically participated in the traditional Pookalam Making Competition. A total of 80 students from Classes I–V and 96 students from Classes IV–IX and Class XI showcased their creativity by designing intricate geometric patterns using fresh flower petals in vibrant colours. The beautiful Pookalams adorned the passages around the school atrium and the atrium itself, adding a festive and colourful touch to the school environment. The entries were judged on the basis of presentation, colour combination, cleanliness, creativity and intricacy of design.

The students showcased an excellent blend of creativity, imagination and an understanding of colours while crafting their elaborate floral carpets. The colourful pookalams adorned the school atrium, creating a vibrant and serene ambience. They beautifully reflected the spirit of Onam and symbolised peace, harmony, sharing, love and brotherhood.

The competition provided students with an opportunity to appreciate Kerala’s rich cultural heritage while nurturing their artistic skills, teamwork and ingenuity. The event concluded with the announcement of the winners. Nehru House secured the First Prize in the Junior School, while Tilak House won the First Prize in the Senior School. Patel House was awarded the Second Prize in Junior School and Nehru Senior Schools.

The celebration was a colourful and joyful tribute to the spirit of Onam, leaving everyone with cherished memories of togetherness, creativity and cultural harmony.
