Road safety is not merely about following rules; it is about protecting lives, caring for others and making responsible choices on the road. Every day, thousands of people—including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and passengers use our roads. It is therefore essential for everyone to understand how to do so safely and responsibly.
Road safety is not the responsibility of drivers or the Traffic Police alone. Every road user has
a vital role to play. By following traffic rules and respecting one another, we can help make our
roads safer for all.
The Traffic Police team highlighted its ongoing initiatives to promote road safety awareness
among students and young citizens. They emphasised that education at an early age helps
develop responsible habits and behaviour.
The team led an informative and interactive session covering:
1. Traffic signals and road markings: The meanings of red, yellow and green lights; traffic
police hand signals; and the importance of understanding road markings.
2. Rules and regulations: The importance of wearing an ISI-marked helmet and a seat belt,
observing speed limits and obeying traffic signals.
3. Safe commuting practices: Avoiding mobile phone use while driving or crossing the road;
never driving without a licence or before reaching the legal driving age; using zebra crossings,
foot over bridges and subways; avoiding triple riding on two-wheelers; and helping accident
victims as a Good Samaritan.
The team also shared simple steps everyone can take to contribute to road safety and save lives,
reminding students that a small precaution can protect a precious life.
Respected Principal Ma’am addressed the gathering and urged students to follow traffic rules
diligently. She noted that making safety a priority brings happiness and peace of mind to
families. She encouraged the students to become Road Safety Ambassadors and spread
awareness among their parents, drivers and peers.
The programme concluded on a positive and meaningful note. The session was an eye-opener
and an enriching learning experience for everyone present.
