REPORT ON AZAD AND TILAK JAYANTI

St. George’s School, Alaknanda, celebrated Azad and Tilak Jayanti on 24th July 2026, a significant event that commemorates the birth anniversaries of the freedom fighters, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The school house groups are named after them, connecting us to our rich heritage. The event was graced by Respected Principal Ma’am, Ms Anjali Massey.
After the thought for the day, students recounted the fearless spirit of Chandra Shekhar Azad and Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, highlighting their commitment to India’s freedom. Thereafter, senior students showcased their contributions in the play, Swaraj Ke Do Suraj bringing the pre-freedom era to life. Subsequently, students of the primary section of Azad and Tilak houses sang a soulful rendition of Janani Janam Bhoomi Swarg Se Mahan Hai, stirring nationalistic sentiments.
During the prize distribution ceremony, the school acknowledged the talented students in the Intra Model United Nations: Third Chapter with consistency and hard work. The Secretariat that steered SGS MUN’s smooth conduct comprised of the Secretary General, Raghav, Deputy Secretary General, Mohd. Ashaz Hassan, Under Secretary General (Delegate Affairs), Doyel Bharwaj, Under Secretary General (Organizing Committee Head), Isbah Nazim, and Under Secretary General (Conference Management), Prabhseerat Kaur. The International Press team was led by Head of Journalism, Humaira Khan, Rapporteur of Journalism, Kavya Nagar, Head of Photography, Lavanya Gupta, and Head of Caricature, Manavi Khandelwal. The UNHRC Executive Board included Chairperson, Daiwik Nair (X-C), Vice-Chairperson, Chitraksh Agnihotri (X-E), and Rapporteur, Akshita Negi (X-E). All of them were awarded certificates.
While the Best Delegate was awarded to Kavyansh Makhijani (IX-E), High Commendation was given to Aaradhya Krishna (IX-C), Special Mention award to Avika Garva (XI-D), and Verbal Mentions were awarded to Anahita (IX-E), Falak Kukreja (IX-C), Misha Soni (IX-A), and Nitya Grewal (IX-D). The UNCSW Executive Board comprised of the Chairperson, Priyansh Jha (XI-D), Vice-Chairperson, Harsh Anand (X-E), and Rapporteur, Shiv Raghuvanshi (X-B). Awards were also given to the Best Delegate, Ashlynne Joanna (IX-B), Divyanshi Khandelwal (IX-C) for High Commendation, Special Mention to Vedanshi Bansal (IX-E), and Verbal Mentions to Yashvee Ghai (IX-D), Jovan Nipun John (IX-E), Taksh Aggarwal (IX-B), and Nabhia Ahmed (IX-A).
For the Interschool MUN in Don Bosco School, Nivriti Pahuja (9 E) and Falak Kukreja (9 C) were awarded the Best Beginner’s Trophy. Sheyash Seth of 7 C got a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of Rs 500 for showing tact and intelligence during the Social Science Olympiad.
After the prize distribution, Respected Principal Ma’am emphasized on the sacrifice of the freedom fighters and reminded students about the unique contribution they can make to their motherland. She encouraged students to watch patriotic movies, as these films not only cherish the legacies of our freedom fighters but also inspire us to strive for a brighter future for our nation. Quoting instances from the freedom fighters’ lives, she urged students to take ideas from their lives, which left an indelible mark on India’s quest for independence. She also congratulated the winners of the different Olympiads who had been awarded. The programme ended on a high note with the National anthem.
