TIME : 12:00 NOON – 1:30 PM
VENUE : ASSEMBLY AREA
PARTICIPANTS : STUDENTS OF CLASSES XI AND XII
(SECTIONS A, B AND C)
Resource Persons
Mr. Sarthak Grover, a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft, holds a B.Tech. in Computational Science from YMCA University of Science and Technology. He has previously worked with Paytm and Orange Business Services. Mr. Gaurav, an MCA graduate from YMCA, also shared valuable insights into engineering careers and emerging opportunities in the technology sector.
Overview of the Workshop
The workshop introduced students to the evolving landscape of engineering and the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The speakers discussed career pathways, industry expectations, job opportunities and the importance of developing practical skills alongside strong fundamentals.
Key Takeaways
- Computer Science careers: The speakers distinguished between service-based and product-based companies, explaining their different work environments and career pathways.
- Emerging technology fields: AI and Machine Learning, Robotics, Cloud and DevOps, and Full-Stack Development were highlighted as areas offering promising opportunities. Students were encouraged to explore these fields through projects and hands-on learning.
- Engineering beyond software: The session covered growth areas across Electrical Engineering (renewable energy, semiconductors and electric vehicles), Mechanical Engineering (electric mobility, robotics, automation, aerospace and defence), Chemical Engineering (advanced materials, batteries and sustainable energy systems), and Civil Engineering (smart cities, green buildings and transportation systems).
- Career planning: Students were encouraged to choose an engineering branch by considering their interests, aptitude, emerging industry needs and the skills they are willing to build.
- Innovation and product development: The speakers discussed the journey from an idea to a product, the role of AI in development, and the value of internships, mentorship and real-world problem-solving.
Conclusion
The interactive session gave students a broader understanding of engineering as a diverse and rapidly changing field. It encouraged them to remain curious, strengthen their technical foundations, gain practical experience and make informed choices about their future studies and careers.
