St. George’s School organized an enriching Butterfly Garden Workshop for classes 5 and 6, to promote environmental awareness and foster a sense of ecological responsibility among students.The session was conducted by Mr. Vineet Vohra, an eminent environmental educator associated with Give Me Trees Trust, founded by renowned environmentalist Peepal Baba.
Details of the Session:
- The programme commenced with a warm welcome to Honourable Director Ma’am,
- Respected Principal Ma’am and the resource person, Mr. Vineet Vohra.
- The resource person shared insights from his journey in environmental conservation after opting for voluntary retirement from his corporate career to serve nature full-time.
- He explained the importance of butterfly gardens in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity.
- Students were introduced to the life cycle of butterflies and the significance of host and nectar plants in attracting different species.
- The resource person highlighted various environment-friendly initiatives such as:
○ Environmental awareness sessions and webinars
○ Compost making and waste management
○ Bird nest and feeder preparation
○ Seed collection drives
○ Plantation and maintenance drives
○ Eco-audits and tree census initiatives
○ Development of nursery zones and eco-spaces in schools
- He emphasized that today’s generation must adopt sustainable habits to ensure a greener and healthier planet for the future.
- The session was interactive and engaging, encouraging students to ask questions and participate actively.
- The resource person also shared that he has conducted over 200+ webinars and 250+ environmental sessions, impacting thousands of schools and institutions.
- His contributions have been recognized by various institutions and media platforms including DD News, CNN-News18, The Times of India, Dainik Jagran, and Jansatta.
Butterfly Garden Activity:
- The activity commenced with the formal inauguration of the Butterfly Garden by Honourable Director Ma’am, marking the beginning of this meaningful environmental initiative.
- Honourable Director Ma’am and Respected Principal Ma’am graced the occasion with their presence and actively participated in the plantation drive.
- Children were then taken to the school garden to plant saplings that attract butterflies and support biodiversity.
- The resource person briefed the students about the importance of each plant species and explained how different plants attract different varieties of butterflies.
- Students enthusiastically participated in the plantation activity, learning the proper techniques of planting and nurturing saplings.
- Respected Principal Ma’am also joined the students in the activity and planted a sapling for the Butterfly Garden, motivating students by her active participation.
- The hands-on experience helped students understand the practical aspects of creating and maintaining a butterfly-friendly environment.
The Butterfly Garden Session proved to be an inspiring and informative initiative. It successfully instilled environmental values in students and encouraged them to take responsibility for protecting nature. The session concluded on a positive note, leaving students motivated to contribute actively towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
