Report on Gandhi and Shastri Jayanti
St. George’s School proudly commemorated the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji,
on September 26th, 2025. Coinciding with this special day, the school also celebrated the birthday of the former
Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastriji. The event was graciously attended by our esteemed Principal, Ms.
Anjali Massey.
The celebration began with a thought for the day, setting a tone of reflection and commitment. Following this, a
student delivered an insightful speech highlighting the remarkable contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal
Bahadur Shastri to India and the world. Students performed a captivating dance drama, portraying significant life
episodes of both leaders, beautifully bringing history to life. The atmosphere was filled with melodious music as
students from the senior school, representing Gandhi and Shastri houses, sang “Hum Rakhte Hain Nek
Vichaar…”, adding adding depth and solemnity to the occasion.
The programme culminated in a prize distribution ceremony, honouring outstanding achievers across different
classes from various interschool competitions. A total of 41 students received awards for securing top positions
in inter-school contests hosted by K. R. Mangalam School, Ambience Public School, Tagore International School,
and Dev Samaj Modern School. Additionally, awards were also presented to students who emerged toppers in the
SOF Olympiad Exams of 2024–25.
In her address, Respected Principal highlighted Mahatma Gandhiji’s principle of non-violence (ahimsa), stressing
that doing no harm to others, either physically or mentally, should be a guiding ideal for all. She drew parallels
between the two leaders, noting that though their ideologies differed in some respects, both shared determination,
perseverance, and integrity. She proposed that future assemblies be themed around non-violence and suggested
that students should watch curated movies or documentaries about Gandhi and Shastri to deepen their
understanding.
Respected Principal extended heartfelt congratulations to all the winners, urging every student strive harder, take
inspiration from these great leaders, and internalize the values they stood for. Finally, students joined in the
National Anthem, marking a solemn and respectful close to the program.
